Teacher - Cognitive Impairment
$10/Per Hour

Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher for Cognitive Impairment to join our educational team in Michigan. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and support to students with cognitive impairments, ensuring they receive a quality education tailored to their individual needs. The Teacher – Cognitive Impairment will work closely with other educators, staff, and parents to create a positive and supportive learning environment.

Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
A valid Michigan teaching certificate with an endorsement in cognitively impaired.
Willingness to participate in all phases of the instructional program, including toilet training, diapering and clean up.
Experience teaching the cognitively impaired.
Ability to relate to students as individuals.
Patience in instruction and the ability to be satisfied with seeing small increments in progress during the student's school year.
Ability to respond appropriately to challenging behavior.
The ability to lift and balance 40-60 pounds.
Ability to provide leadership to paraprofessionals by communication, demonstration and example.
Crisis Prevention Institute certification or willingness to obtain.
Must pass criminal background check as required by School Safety Legislation.

Work conditions:

The position is based in a classroom setting within a school or educational facility. Teachers will work closely with students who have cognitive impairments in a structured environment, requiring both individual and group instruction. The classroom may be equipped with specialized resources to aid in the learning process.

Responsibilities:

Plan curriculum for all assigned students, with assistance and direction from the principal and other professional personnel. Analyze and chart skills of students.
Establish instructional and behavioral objectives for students; update objective periodically to see that skills are being acquired.
Establish discipline techniques for classroom in accordance with school policies, as established by the principal and the ISD Special Education Division.
Order equipment and supplies for classroom, under supervision.
Cooperate in planning curriculum with other teachers of severely cognitively impaired classes and other professional personnel.
Other assignments as determined by future course of events.
Direct paraprofessionals responsible to the teacher in their classroom duties.
